HEPATITIS C

Comparison of Weight-based Doses of Taribavirin Combined with Peginterferon Alfa-2b Versus Ribavirin Combined with Peginterferon Alfa-2b in Therapy-naive Patients with Chronic Hepatitis C Virus Genotype 1 Infection
 
We are looking for 10-15 patients who would like to participate.
 
This study is sponsored by Valeant Pharmaceuticals North America.
 
There is a 45 day screening, a possible 48 weeks of treatment and a 6 month followup.

INCLUSION:
Hep C - genotype 1
Liver biopsy within last 3 years with no evidence of cirrhosis
Positive for virus
 
EXCLUSION:
Poorly controlled or unstable chronic illness
Significant recent cardiovascular disease
Severe neuropsychiatric disorder
Pregnant or breast feeding
Underlying autoimmune disease
Chronic diarrhea, including irritable bowel disease

This study is being conducted at the Lakewood office.
 
All procedures, visits, laboratory tests & study medications are at no cost to the patient.
If the patient qualifies and does not have a biopsy, the study will also arrange this procedure at no cost.
Patients who participate will be provided a stipend of $55.00/visit completed.

Efficacy and Safety of Daily Infergen/Ribavirin in Patients with Chronic Hepatitis C Virus Genotype 1 Infection Who Were Partial Responders after Peginterferon alfa/Ribavirin
VRX-CIFN-402 is at Arapahoe GI
 
Therapy partial responder criteria after 12 weeks of initial therapy, the same HCV RNA assay must be used as the assay used at baseline and TW 4.
Must have had a 2 log drop in HCV RNA
No patients with fibrosis score of F4
No Hep B, HIV or autoimmune diseases
Dr. Triebling is the PI - Marylyn Baker is the coordinator
 
Pts randomized to Infergen with oral ribavirin - weight based or standard therapy
Provides free visits, drug, labs including recombinant erythropoietin  at the discretion of the investigator.

Herbal study for HEP C Genotype type 1
- biopsy in the last 2 years
- no cirrhosis
- Can be previously treated and has active virus or never been treated.
Current enrollment: 3
Screen failure: 1
Continued screening
